Brindisi (Province) Italy

The Province of Brindisi is situated in the southeastern part of Italy, spanning 1,839 square kilometers (710 square miles), making it the second smallest province in the region, following the Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani. It was formed in 1927 from the ancient Terra d'Otranto. It is bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the east, the Province of Bari to the north, the Province of Taranto to the west, and the Province of Lecce to the southeast. The northern, central, and western regions are mountainous with numerous forests, with the Murgia hills being of particular interest. The northwest region, which borders the provinces of Taranto and Bari, is lower, featuring the Itria Valley. The highest point in the province is 414 meters (1,358 feet) above sea level, located near Selva di Fasano. Other peaks, slightly lower, are found in the north-central region. The province's coastline stretches 80,606 kilometers (50,086 miles), alternating between rocky areas, sandy beaches, small ports, and bays. The southern part of the province is largely flat and extensively used for farming.
